Top 3 August Upcoming Dramas

Two eye-popping sageuk dramas and one heart-tripping romcom starting this August… Hey month, how lucky are you?

image

Winner takes all…the girl, the kingdom, the glory – we know just how this story goes, but it will be great to see the Korean version of Moon Lovers shine bright in its own right!

Moon Lovers – Scarlet Heart: Ryeo
Now picture this. If you were a modern-era heroine, who ends up being transported and then trapped in the Goryeo dynasty…wouldn’t you rather it was in the midst of a troop of red-hot imperial princes?

I know I would!

Some girls have all the luck – and I do mean ALL…

Scarlet Heart: Ryeo promises a whole lot of pretty, and fingers crossed it’s going to also deliver on some excitement, action, romance and mystery. Either way, I’ll be keeping my options way open for this one!

Lee Joon Ki as Wang So (4th Prince)
IU as Hae Soo
Kang Ha Neul as Wang Wook (8th Prince)
Hong Jong Hyun as Wang Yo (3rd Prince)
Episodes – 20
Genre – historical, fantasy, romance
Starting – August 29

Jealousy Incarnate
With a lead cast dripping this much collective charisma and talent, we have us a must-watch drama on our hands – irrespective of plot. Plot who?

Okay well, here goes: there’s our heroine who works as a weather ‘caster in a bustling TV station but, she’s not your typical glamorous ‘weather girl’. More like errand girl, judging by the fact she’ll be the downtrodden people-pleaser type always stuck doing everyone’s dirty work. Sheesh, where’s a Prince Charming when you need one!?

Looks like she’ll have two: one’s a hunky third-gen chaebol, the other’s a hunky news anchor. Both will be competing for her heart and attentions – so I think our girl is set.

Opposites attract: Pyo Na-ri, optimistic yet insecure, pursued by two rival alpha males at the top of their game. This spells major macho mayhem, and you can bet I wouldn’t want to miss even a moment of it!

Gong Hyo-jin as Pyo Na-ri
Jo Jeong-seok as Lee Hwa-sin
Ko Kyeong-pyo as Ko Jeong-won
Lee Seong-jae as Kim Rak
Episodes – 24
Genre – romance, comedy, drama
Starting – August 24

Moonlight Drawn By the Clouds
What’s a month without at least one cross-dressing sageuk to look forward to?

Set in Joseon times, this is another gorgeous looking period drama. And yes we definitely have the princes, the love triangles and the palace politicking that normally come with the territory. The main twist though, is that we also happen to have a cross-dressing eunuch. Whatever next?

A Prince and his eunuch…here comes a gender-bender for the ages, people!

It’s been a while since I’ve had fun watching a girl-masquerading-as-boy drama and I’m hoping this one will hit the spot. Also known as Love in the Moonlight, it’s a love story between a Joseon prince and his enemy’s daughter who cross-dresses as a man (later eunuch) while counselling men on dating.

I’ll admit, I’m curious. Can they pull the whole thing off and still make the drama entertaining and worthwhile? Your guess is as good as mine!

Park Bo Gum as Lee Yeong (later Crown Prince Hyomyeong)
Kim Yoo Jung as Hong Ra On
Jin Young as Kim Yoon Sung
Chae Soo Bin as Jo Ha Yeon
Episodes -18 (To Be Confirmed)
Genre – historical, romance
Starting – August 22

  1. THE FEELS!! I can’t wait for all these dramas, especially Scarlet Heart: Ryeo which I’m just dying to see! August is totally the month for K-dramas. I actually forgot that Jealousy Incarnate is coming out this month. Thanks for the reminder! I’ve been writing reviews for K-dramas for a little while now as well, and I SO LOVE finding someone else who reviews them!! Keep up the awesome work! 😀

    1. I’m glad you’re looking forward to these 3 gems as much as I am! And I agree, August is definitely winning 🙂 Thanks for checking out my post and it’s great to meet a fellow reviewer. I love your enthusiasm and can’t wait to check out your posts!

  2. Hey did you catch the first two episodes of Moon lovers? Trying not to get too excited here but we may be on to a winner. I saw very many exasperated commentators over at Dramabeans but I believe LJK picked a winner this time around #fingerscrossed 🙂

    1. I caught like the first 10-15 minutes! Once LJK came on the screen on that horse I just chickened out :)! LOL I plan to catch all three episodes at once sometime this week/weekend. Sooo nervous for Joon Gi because he’s so good but there’s always something (production, co-star etc) to pull him back.
